My boyfriend and I are traveling to Kansas by Amtrak train next week and we have about a four hour layover in Chicago. What are some things to do near Union Station (my boyfriend doesn't want to travel too far from the station which I understand). I already looked into going to the Skydeck at Willis Tower but tickets are too expensive. Any suggestions?
Answer :
The same things you do at home. A new town, a new experience and everything different from what you are used to. Why are kids so anxious about "doing"? Just "being" is also better and four hours pass just as fast.
Peace.
Answer :
well the union station is near by michigan ave so you can check out the millenium park which is very pretty and they have the "bean' which is always fun to look at and take pictures. you will also be near state street which has lots of stores to go shopping,
Answer :
You have plenty of time to go east to State Street and walk around Macy's (formerly Marshall Field's) at Washington and State. If you cross the river you will be heading east, it's about 5 blocks (not a bad walk) or you could take a #151 bus.
There is a book shop in the Ogilvie station which is nearby Union station http://metrarail.com/metra/en/home/maps_… (a block north) they have better food than Union Station.
Answer :
Don't forget about Amtrak Time. The chances of your train being on time getting into Chicago aren't that great. The outgoing train will leave on time, though. So your four hours could be two. You'll be on the train for at least 6 hours. Eat dinner because the food on the train will be more expensive, and walk around the area.
