I'm planning on taking a trip by train to go see some old friends in San Diego, it'll be round trip.
Can I ride on the train by myself, no parent involvement?
And how do I go about getting a ticket in advance, obviously I have no credit card of my own and I am paying for my trip on my own

Yes. If you have an ID you can buy your own ticket(s). To buy in advance without a credit card find an amtrak station that has ticket agents and purchase your tickets at the booth/windows.

yes you can my brother alone travels in train from age of 16 too...even you can travel at any age..
